Course Overview

This unit is designed to give learners an understanding of recording and manipulating audio and MIDI signals for sound production using digital audio workstations. It is designed to give learners the underpinning knowledge and skills required to use the main functions of a digital audio workstation and to take a sound production project to a conclusion by creating an edited pre-production master incorporating critical listening. This unit is intended for learners who wish to develop the skills and knowledge required to effectively use a digital audio workstation to record, edit and mix sound production projects

The unit will examine issues relating to music copyright, trademark and the collection societies before evaluating the impact of a current issue on music copyright. Learners will then go on to examine a music industry agreement and evaluate the impact of the agreement on the parties to the deal. The unit is intended to give HN Music Business, HN Music and HN Sound Production learners the opportunity to explore issues that have shaped contemporary practice relating to copyright law and music business contracts. Outcomes On successful completion of the unit the learner will be able to: 1 Explain law relating to music copyright and trademark and evaluate benefits of collection societies. 2 Explain a contemporary issue and evaluate the impact on music industry copyright. 3 Explain and evaluate a contemporary music industry agreement.
