Through case studies, the unit will examine the licensing, Artist and Repertoire (A&R) and product management process within record companies. Learners will then be able to further develop their knowledge by examining the process for distributing audio products released by record companies. This unit is designed to enable learners to develop knowledge and understanding of the music business by studying its development from the turn of the twentieth century to the present day. Learners will research the business, economic, social and technical factors that have contributed to key developments and trends in the national and international music industry and also look at theories of how the industry may develop in the future. This unit is suitable for learners who wish to develop a range of skills (research, analysis, evaluation and presentation) and will give them the underpinning knowledge to apply these skills in other areas. It would be of particular benefit to learners studying HN Music Business, HN Music or HN Sound Production
