Courses also make use of Moodle’s TAG system, categorising content by themes such as digital skills, wellbeing, employability, and industry relevance. Introduction to Digital Certificatesexpand collapse
We’re excited to now offer digital certificates through our College Moodle, giving both full-time and part-time students the chance to gain official recognition for completing a range of open eLearning courses.

Once you complete all required activities in a course, Moodle will automatically issue a digital certificate of completion. These certificates are a great way to showcase your learning, build your CV, and strengthen applications for employment, placements, or further study.

Originally developed through the Glasgow Kelvin Learning Network (GKLN), this system ensures all certificates are only awarded once specific learning criteria are met—giving real value to your achievement. You can access and download your certificates anytime via the “My Courses” area on Moodle.

Whether you're developing new skills or boosting your existing knowledge, these certificates are a smart, flexible way to evidence your progress and stand out.

Are these digital certificates the same as my college qualifications?expand collapse
No — these certificates are for achievement only. They don’t replace the outcomes or qualifications from your full or part-time college course, but they are a great way to show additional learning and skills development.
Will these certificates appear on my official SQA transcript?expand collapse
No, digital certificates from Moodle’s eLearning area won’t appear on your official transcript. However, they can still be included in your CV or portfolio as evidence of your personal commitment to learning.
Can I use these certificates when applying for jobs?expand collapse
Absolutely! These certificates are perfect for showing initiative and skill development to potential employers. They demonstrate that you’ve gone above and beyond your main studies.
Can I fail a course and not get a certificate?expand collapse
These are non-assessed learning opportunities, but you do need to complete certain tasks or quizzes within each eLearning lesson to qualify for a certificate. You can retake the lessons as many times as you require to complete a course. These learning paths are for you to enjoy, Always remember that your awarded course with Glasgow Kelvin College should always come first! Perhaps ask your lecturer for direction to any appropriate lessons that may enhance your learning!
Do these courses help with my main college course?expand collapse
Yes, many students find that the topics complement their main course — offering extra support with study skills, digital tools, or sector-specific knowledge.
Can I complete more than one course?expand collapse
These are independent, self-paced courses, You can also revisit content anytime — there are no deadlines or time limits.
Digital Certificate Award Criteriaexpand collapse
The college-endorsed digital certificates issued through Glasgow Kelvin College Moodel LMS officially recognise a learner’s completion of eLearning courses and are authenticated to the user through the college Moodle LMS platform. Anyone can verify the certificate simply by scanning the QR on the certificate.

✅These certificates are valuable for demonstrating continuous learning, both within the college and to potential employers.

✅Criteria for Earning a Digital Certificate:Completion of All Modules: To earn a digital certificate, learners must complete all individual modules within the course. Each module must be fully engaged with to ensure progress toward 100%.

✅Achieving 100% Course Progress: Learners must reach 100% course progress, which indicates that all required activities and assessments have been completed.

✅Pass Marks and Multiple Attempts:Each individual topic module requires a pass mark of 50%.

✅Learners are allowed multiple attempts to reach the passing score, ensuring they have the opportunity to succeed and complete the course requirements.

✅Issuance of the Digital Certificate:Once the learner has successfully completed the course and met the progress criteria, a digital certificate will be sent to the learner’s college email address.

✅The certificate is issued electronically and can be accessed and stored digitally.

✅Visual Prompt – The Color Black:The color black is intentionally used in the design of the digital certificate as a visual reminder not to print the certificate.

✅This design choice aligns with the college’s goal to maintain a paperless environment and encourage the use of digital certificates rather than physical prints.

✅Print Option Disabled:The college has disabled the print option for the digital certificates, reinforcing the idea that they should remain in their digital form and not be printed.

✅Purpose and Use of the Digital Certificate:Digital certificates are intended to be stored online (e.g., in the learner’s ePortfolio or personal learning profile) and can be used as evidence of continued learning.

✅Learners can share their certificates online, making them an accessible and portable form of recognition for both academic and professional purposes.

College Statement

☑️These digital certificates do not replace accredited college qualifications. They are not equivalent to formal college credits or recognised within the SQA (Scottish Qualifications Authority) framework.

☑️The certificates serve to highlight personal achievement and engagement with eLearning, but they do not carry the same weight as accredited academic qualifications.

☑️By following these guidelines, the college ensures that the digital certificates remain sustainable, accessible, and useful for learners, while emphasising their role in showcasing personal learning accomplishments without replacing formal qualifications.

Authentication and Verificationexpand collapse
Verifying Digital Certificates – Glasgow Kelvin College

All digital certificates issued by Glasgow Kelvin College through Moodle include an embedded QR code to support secure, transparent, and verifiable recognition of student achievement.

The QR code links to a secure certificate verification page, confirming:

✅The recipient's full name

✅ The course title completed

✅ The completion date

This allows third parties—such as employers, placement providers, or education providers—to confidently validate that the certificate is authentic and issued by Glasgow Kelvin College.

⚠️Please note: The recipient’s Moodle profile and personal details are not accessible to external users. Only essential information required to verify the certificate is displayed.⚠️

The verification page also links to the course’s enrolment form, where external viewers can view the subject headers and learning outcomes of the course. This provides helpful context regarding the content and skills demonstrated by the certificate holder.

Unique Recipient Identifier:

The certificate also contains a unique code tied to the recipient’s Glasgow Kelvin College account. This code is:

✅Not publicly accessible

✅ Used internally for administrative verification

✅ Designed to prevent certificate duplication or fraudulent use

This internal identifier helps college staff confirm ownership and trace certificate records as needed, supporting data integrity and compliance.

By combining visible verification with secure, behind-the-scenes tracking, Glasgow Kelvin College ensures its digital certificates are:

✅Trusted and credible ✅Privacy-conscious ✅Environmentally responsible

This approach allows us to celebrate student achievement with a modern, secure, and sustainable credentialing process.

Discover More with Moodle TAGs in the eLearning Areaexpand collapse
Our eLearning area offers over 100 open-access courses packed with hundreds of interactive modules, designed to support and expand your learning. To help you get even more from these resources, we’ve introduced the Moodle TAG system — a smart way to link related topics across different subjects.

Look out for TAGs in each course category — they’re highlighted in black. These clickable labels make it easy to explore similar content in other courses, helping you deepen your knowledge, build new skills, and discover learning that aligns with your personal and career goals.
Where to Find TAGs – Step by Step:expand collapse
1. Go to the eLearning Area on Moodle. Navigate to the main eLearning course category on the Moodle homepage.

2. Select any course category (e.g., Digital Skills, Health & Wellbeing, Study Skills). Each category contains multiple courses with different themes and levels.

3. Scroll down to the course listings. Under each course description, you’ll see black TAG labels showing key topics covered in the course.

4. Click a TAG to explore more. When you click on a TAG (e.g., "communication skills" or "mental health"), Moodle will show you other courses that include content related to that topic.

5. Use TAGs to guide your learning. Explore additional courses that complement your studies or help you build up skills in new areas — all with the flexibility of self-paced learning and digital certificates.

What are Moodle TAGs and why are they useful?expand collapse
Moodle TAGs are keywords that group related content across different courses. They help you find new learning opportunities based on your interests or needs — quickly and easily.
How can TAGs help me?expand collapse
TAGs let you follow themes like "study skills" or "wellbeing" across multiple courses. This gives you a more connected learning experience and helps you build a broader skill set.
Do I need to use the TAGs to complete a course?expand collapse
No — you can still complete any course on its own. TAGs are optional but can lead you to other useful content to support your development.
Will TAG-related content count toward my course certificate?expand collapse
Only content within the course you’re enrolled in counts toward that specific certificate. But if you explore other tagged courses and complete them, you can earn additional digital certificates.
Can TAGs help me prepare for work?expand collapse
Yes! Many TAGs are linked to employability skills and industry-relevant topics, making it easier to build a learning pathway that supports your CV and career goals.
