In this unit you will learn about the primary components in a computer system. You will learn about the main functional and physical characteristics of motherboards, memory devices and processors with an emphasis on understanding individual hardware components and assembly.

You will be taught how to install, configure and upgrade computer hardware, software and peripherals. You will also learn how to use utility software and diagnose and resolve common system and software faults.

This unit has a significant number of practical activities that have to be visually assessed and documented to a high standard. Practical assessments will be performed in a suitably equipped electronics lab.

Please retain copies of your PC Build/Upgrade and Repair Documentation as it may be used to gain credit for the HN Computer Hardware Unit if you continue your studies at GKC.
