MOODLE MIGRATION

1. What do I need to do to have my Moodle courses migrated?expand collapse
Our Moodle has been rebuilt from the ground up — it’s faster, more reliable, and designed with a cleaner, more modern interface. Staff and students will find it easier to navigate, with improved accessibility, mobile responsiveness, and tools that make learning more engaging.
This is not just a “move” — it’s an upgrade to a platform that opens the door to future innovations, from interactive learning features to better integration with other college systems.
To help us move your courses to the new Moodle platform, please share the course page URLs of the resources you’d like transferred. Just copy the URL from your course page and submit it via our Microsoft Form.
Think of this as a spring-clean for your course content—it’s a perfect time to bring forward only what’s still relevant and leave outdated material behind.
2. How do I find my Moodle course page URL?expand collapse
First, log in to the old Moodle at learning2.glasgowkelvin.ac.uk.

Important: You MUST be connected to the college VPN to access the old Moodle site.

Once logged in, open your course and copy the link from your browser’s address bar. It should look something like:

https://learning2.glasgowkelvin.ac.uk/course/view.php?id=1234

That’s the link you’ll paste into the Microsoft Form.
3. Why is this a good time to review my resources?expand collapse
Migrating to the new Moodle gives you a fresh start. It’s a chance to:

✅Keep your best, most up-to-date resources.

✅Retire materials that are no longer accurate or useful.

✅Organise your content so it’s easier for students to find what they need.

This way, your new Moodle space will feel fresh, streamlined, and ready for the next academic year.

4. Can I get help if I’m not sure what to do?expand collapse
Absolutely! We’re here to make the move stress-free. If you’d like support—whether it’s finding your URLs, deciding what to bring over, or checking your migrated content—you can book a slot with our team via Microsoft Bookings at the bottom of the page.
5. When should I submit my URLs?expand collapse
The sooner, the better! Sending them early helps us plan the migration efficiently and gives you plenty of time to review your courses in the new Moodle before the start of term.
6. What happens after I submit my URLs?expand collapse
Once your courses are migrated, you’ll get an update from the team. You can then log into the new Moodle to review everything. The new course page allocation is now in place from MIS through school data sync.Staff are advised to book one of the sessions available.
Welcome to Your Newly Migrated Courses!expand collapse
Your courses have officially landed in our shiny new Moodle — fresh, organised, and ready for you to explore! Think of this as moving into a brand-new home: the walls are up, the rooms are ready, and now it’s your turn to add the finishing touches.

You’ll find your courses neatly tucked away under: Teaching Staff Pages > Faculty > Subject > Named Sub-Category

You’re listed as Manager in your own area, giving you full control to tidy up, check everything’s in place, and make it truly yours.

This is your chance to:

Keep only your best, most up-to-date content.

Apply the new naming convention for clarity and consistency.

Give your students a polished, easy-to-use learning space from day one.

A little time spent now will make a huge difference later — and we can’t wait for you (and your students) to enjoy the benefits of the new platform.

1. Where will I find my migrated courses on the new Moodle?expand collapse
Your migrated courses will be located under:

Teaching Staff Pages > Faculty > Subject > Named Sub-Category

Each staff member has been added as Manager to their own named sub-category so you can easily access and review your content for review and transfer of your content, make sure you book a support session in the bookings form.

2. What should I do when I first open my migrated courses?expand collapse
When you log in, take time to:

Check that all resources, activities, and links have transferred correctly.

Remove any outdated or duplicate content.

Ensure that course sections and labels make sense in the new layout. This tidy-up step is essential before your students see the course.

3. How do I check if my content is still valid?expand collapse
Look for:

Outdated resources (old versions of documents, expired web links).

Inaccurate or obsolete information in notes, slides, or assignments.

Missing media files or broken embedded content. If you find issues, replace, update, or remove them so students only see accurate and current materials.

4. What naming convention should I apply to my courses?expand collapse
To keep everything consistent and easy to search, please name your courses using the following format:

Course code > Unit title

Example: HB34 65: Intro to Nursing

You can edit the course name from the Course Settings page in Moodle.

5. What happens once I’ve tidied and renamed my courses?expand collapse
Once your course is ready for use:

Remove any legacy users who no longer require access.

Update activity and resource dates for the new academic year.

Make sure the course is unhidden so students can see it. After these steps, your course will be fully prepared for launch.

6. How do I enable self-enrolment for my class?expand collapse
Before embedding your course into your Microsoft Team, check that self-enrolment is enabled so students can join easily:

Go to Course Settings > Users > Enrolment Methods.

Add or enable Self-enrolment (Student).

Share the enrolment key (if used) with your students. With self-enrolment in place, linking Moodle to your Team will be seamless and ready for your learners to access.

Do you require support? (This option is for teaching staff only)

Book your place on our hands-on training sessions designed to help you get the most from the new Moodle LMS and Turnitin LTI 1.3 tools.

Choose from:

✔️ Session 1: Moodle LMS & Turnitin LTI 1.3: Features & Functionality (multiple sessions available)
✔️ Session 2: Moodle LMS: Course Page Migration (multiple sessions available)

These sessions will help streamline your digital delivery, enhance student experience, and reduce admin time.
