Unit purpose  This unit is intended to give learners knowledge of a broad range of musical genres and then to provide the opportunity to study a record label and an artist in depth. This will be achieved through the research of the musical development of the genres in addition to broad study of the key artists within each genre. Learners will then be able to further develop their knowledge by studying, in more detail, the development of a selected record label and then an artist. The unit will appeal to learners studying HNC/HND Music, HNC/HND Music Business or HNC/HND Sound Production but can also be taken as a stand-alone unit. The unit provides learners with an ideal opportunity to develop and implement research and presentation skills.
This unit is designed to give learners the knowledge and skills to recognise the role and function of copyright, contracts and relevant income streams available to musicians and provide an opportunity to prepare for employment. The unit will provide a broad overview of copyright and contracts found in the music industry, as well as the role and function of a number of relevant collection societies. The learners will also gain insight into professional development through the exploration of employment opportunities. The unit would be relevant to those with experience of working in music performance as well as those who have limited experience. Â
This graded unit integrates the main knowledge and skills gained in the mandatory units of your first year in HND Music. It is a project and the assessment is a practical assignment, with three stages (planning, developing and evaluating) giving you the opportunity to show that you possess the knowledge and skills needed. You will plan and produce a portfolio of related items that demonstrate your employability in a chosen music industry role or your potential for further study at university. At the end of the process, you will evaluate the effectiveness of your Planning and Developing stages.
This unit is designed to develop the necessary skills and techniques to produce a range of business documents using the functions of a current word processing package. This will include recalling, editing, producing hard-copy and creating documents as a result of merging two independent files. This unit is suitable for learners who have no previous experience, or those learners who have some basic knowledge of Word Processing and who wish to further develop their skills.
