By undertaking this Unit candidates will gain the necessary knowledge to contribute effectively to the health and safety of self, others and the organisation through understanding and application of current Health and Safety legislation as practised in the workplace. The candidates will learn how to respond quickly and appropriately in an emergency and how to prevent accidents. They will also be introduced to risk assessment techniques and risk control measures.

You will be required to identify the hazards and risks that are associated with your job. Typically these will focus on your working environment, the tools and equipment that you use, materials and substances that you use, working practices that do not follow laid-down procedures, and manual lifting and carrying techniques.
In order to be efficient and effective in the workplace, you will also be required to demonstrate that you can create and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and line management. You will be expected to review objectives and targets for your personal development and make recommendations and communicate any opportunities for improvements that could be made to working practises and procedures.
The turning operations may be carried out on machines such as centre lathes, capstan or turret lathes, automatic or other specific turning machines. You will be expected to prepare for the turning activities by obtaining all the necessary information, documentation, tools and equipment required, and to plan how you intend to carry out the required turning activities and the sequence of operations you intend to use.
This unit is designed to develop the necessary skills and techniques to produce a range of business documents using the functions of a current word processing package. This will include recalling, editing, producing hard-copy and creating documents as a result of merging two independent files. This unit is suitable for learners who have no previous experience, or those learners who have some basic knowledge of Word Processing and who wish to further develop their skills.
